Senior Citizens

The elderly population is taking up a larger and larger proportion in Hong Kong. In the era of information, people advancing in age are faced with rapid changes. They need to better prepare themselves to keep pace with times. Invariably, the elderly would like to enjoy a happy golden old age in the warmth of their families.

Financial Assistance

Besides taking good care of their health, the elderly should also manage their wealth carefully. The Investor and Financial Education Council's website of The Chin Family and the Securities and Futures Commission's webpage of Investor corner, set up for investors, contain a lot of useful information on investment.

Legal Assistance

The Elderly Commission is mainly tasked to advise the Government in the formulation of a comprehensive policy for the elderly, with a view to improve the quality of life of our elderly population.

Senior Community Legal Information Centre (Senior CLIC) is a community legal information website specially designed for elderly people with basic information about the law, crimes, and legal issues which they are interested in, need to know about, and may affect them.

Elderly Care

"Promoting active ageing", "Ageing in place", "Continuum of care" and "Allocation of resources to the elders most in need" are the major policy objectives of the Government on elderly services, aiming at providing appropriate care and support for elders to facilitate them in leading a respectful and enjoyable life, so as to enable elders to live in dignity and to provide necessary support for them.

Two major elderly supports are provided by Social Welfare Department. They are "Community Support Services for the Elderly" and "Residential Care Services for the Elderly".

  • Community Support Services for the Elderly
It aims to assist elders to remain living in the community for as long as possible. These services also give support to carers. With increasing diversity of community support services for the elders, a more integrated approach to facilitate access to services is adopted. In brief, there are three types of community support services for the elders, namely: elderly centre services, community care services and other support services. You can find information on Community Support Services for the Elderly from this link.
  • Residential Care Services for the Elderly
It aims to provide residential care and facilities for elders aged 65 or above who, for personal, social, health and/or other reasons, cannot adequately be taken care of at home. Persons aged between 60 and 64 may apply if there is a proven need. You can find information on Residential Care Services for the Elderly from this link.
